Gender(s) and Organizations: Between Stigmas and Transformations

Main Article Content

Mariana R. Gaba

Abstract

The article addresses the incorporation of a gender(s) perspective in organizations as a complex and deeply necessary process to combat structural inequalities. Key conceptual frameworks are explored, such as gender as a variable, standpoint feminism, and gendered organizations, highlighting their implications for organizational analysis and transformation. Additionally, practical tensions are examined, including the reduction of gender(s) to "women's issues," the centralization of policies on addressing violence, and the challenges of mainstreaming the gender(s) perspective within institutions. The relationship between activism and professional work in gender equality is also problematized, pointing to resistances and prejudices that seek to delegitimize this approach. The text underscores the importance of overcoming simplistic and essentialist perspectives, integrating masculinities as part of the analysis, and distributing responsibilities in organizational management. Finally, it calls for consolidating reflective and sustainable strategies to reconfigure power dynamics and advance toward inclusive and democratic organizations, especially in a global context marked by conservative resistances and delegitimizing discourses.
